My name is Mrs. Mopecha. I will be your child’s English Language Learner teacher for this year. In the ELL classroom, we cover the AZ ELD (English Language Development) Standards in Listening & Speaking, Vocabulary, Reading, Writing & Grammar. Since we are not a 4hour block campus, each student will receive an ILLP (Individual Language Learning Plan) based upon his/her individual language needs. My classroom door is open and you are free to come visit at anytime.
My teaching career began 30yrs ago in Cameroon, West Africa, where I taught for 13yrs before moving to the USA in 1999. I was surprised to learn that my Cameroonian and UK certifications couldn’t land me a teaching job, so I took one as a banker, while teaching Sunday school at my church in Mesa, AZ. I’m fluent in many other languages and that gave me the unique opportunity to work with the bank’s many foreign debtors. I made good money, but this was not my passion job. In 2001, I enrolled at ASU, and graduated in 2004 with a BA in Multicultural and Multilingual Education. A 2005 Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in English as a Second Language, from ASU Main. I started teaching with GPS in 2004 – 2010 as an ESL teacher. Sub, with Mesa schools the rest of 2010. Long term Sub, for Reading with Coolidge Public schools 2010/2011. Taught 5th grade in Maricopa Public schools 2011/2012. 2012/2013 taught 5th grade with a Charter School in South Phoenix, AZ. In 2013/2014,we moved to PA, where I sub. at a Christian High School and the Hatboro-Horsham Public schools. I came back to GPS in 2014/2015 still as an ELL teacher. Working with children is my passion. If I’m not teaching at school, I‘m at church or leading some kind of community event somewhere. I love to travel, read, cook, dance & spend time with my family.
