GPS Celebrates Grandparents with Special Events Across Gilbert and Mesa
Gilbert Public Schools campuses across the district opened their doors this month to celebrate National Grandparents’ Day, welcoming thousands of extended family members for special breakfasts, lunches, and classroom visits. The annual tradition gave students a proud opportunity to guide their loved ones through daily routines, showcase their learning spaces, and share their school pride.
"It really is a destination event for our families. We have grandparents who fly in from all over the world just to be here. Our entire school community goes above and beyond to make it special, from our PTSO providing mints and balloons to our student council and staff serving as guides," said Brian Lockwood, Principal at Greenfield Elementary.
"I drive our golf cart to bring grandparents from the parking lot to the front doors. What makes it even more powerful is that many of these grandparents actually attended Greenfield themselves as children, so being here with their grandkids completely closes that circle."
By bringing multiple generations together on campus, GPS creates spaces where local history, family traditions, and daily learning connect.
